Terms of use

The ground rules for using Civic Tracker, its data and its tools.

Public information, not advice

Civic Tracker is a sunshine machine for public records. We surface what’s already been filed, connect the data, and make the record usable for humans and agents. Civic Tracker is provided for public information and research. Nothing here is legal, tax, accounting, investment or campaign-compliance advice. Records can be amended, corrected or superseded; we link to the source so you can read the original, and the original controls. We do our best to be accurate and complete but cannot promise that every record is, or that the service will always be available.

Accounts

Access beyond the free pages is by request and approval. Keep your email account secure, because it is how you sign in. We may decline, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk.

Records, our work and reuse

Government records are public. Our organization of them (classifications, connections, summaries, design and code) is our work. You may quote, link to and share pages and receipts with attribution to Civic Tracker and a link to the page. Data exports are offered for reuse on the terms shown with them.

Corrections and redaction

If something is wrong, tell us at [contact email to be added]. Our correction and redaction rules are in the privacy policy.

Disclaimers and limits

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, Civic Tracker is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be waived.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. We will post changes here with a new effective date; continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
